A Long Way Gone
Is a memoir about a boy solider in Serria Leone. It goes through his complete journey. How he became a soldier, his journey as a soldier, and how he became rehabilitated. It is an emotional book but very good. My friend is already borrowing it because I bragged so much!

Civil War: Hospital Sketches
By Louisa May Alcott
Most people don't know Louisa May Alcott wrote anything besides Little Women. I sure didn't! I have a professor friend that I talk to a lot about books, feminism, and the civil war with. She is awesome! She keeps loaning me books and giving me movies and essays to read. I love it. This was one of those here read this books of hers. It is the fiction version of Louisa's six week term of being a civil war nurse. It is fascinating. If you ever get a chance read it!!!! I know it is going on my bookshelf.

Gone with the Wind
I just finish listening to the audiobook of Gone with the Wind. Good god that book is long! I have to admit I hated Scarlett. Well to be honest the only character I really liked was Melanie. I am extremely proud that I read it. I do love the era it was written about. I do think it had too many climaxes, I got bored. The ending was fitting for Scarlett's character but I still didn't like it. I am glad I read it and I encourage everyone to read it at least once, but I won't be buying a copy. Thanks and happy reading!

Gathering Blue
I read this book when I was younger and loved it. I decided to reread it. It is amazing what you understand as an adult that you missed as a teenager. Its a ok story but I find it lacking and rushed. I probably won't reread this again.
Little Women
I listened to the audiobook of Little Women. Thanks to my husband for introducing me to librivox.org. You can download audiobooks that are in the public domain for free. I liked this story, very charming little family. I liked Jo the most and adored the ending. This book definitely found a spot on my bookshelf.

Star Girl
I read this book my junior year of high school and decided to read it again. It is about a different sweet dreamy girl named Star Girl. The high school that she just started attending doesn't really know what to do with her. Leo falls for her and is caught between wanting her love or being accepted by the rest of the school. It is a great story about being different and first love. This book only encouraged me to keep being myself. This book is staying on my bookshelf!

Nineteen Minutes
By: Jodi Picoult
I love Jodi Picoult she is one of my top 3 authors. If I see a book she as written I don't even bother to read the back I just read it! This one was very hard for me to read. I always expect to be puzzled or amazed at how she can throw my thoughts around on a subject, but this was different. With in two chapters a school shooting happens. There is a lot of violence, heart break, and anger right off the bat. I will not spoil the story for you but they try to pin the blame on bullying. Yes bullying can play a role in things like that. Personally I was bullying all my life relentlessly physically as well as emotionally and mentally, but I never even thought of harming them especially shooting. So I didn't have any sympathy for the shooter. Picoult throws you a curve ball that I did not like at all. I did not like this book overall. Which is sad since up til this one I love every book I read of hers. Needless to say This book did not find a place on my bookshelf.

The Help
Author: Kathryn Stockett
Genre: fiction
This book got very popular. I heard about it on a TV commercial! Of all places to hear about a book I thought it was crazy, but I decided to read the book. I am so glad I did. It turned out to be on my top 5 list after I finished it. I love how strong the main characters are. I am always interested in strong female characters. I also LOVE how Ms. Stockett chose a time and point of view in history that is often ignored. The story pulls you in from the very first page. I really hope to see more from Ms. Stockett. The Help found a permanent home on my bookshelf I know this will be a book I read over and over.

The Time Travelers Wife
Author: Audrey Niffenegger
Genre: Romance meets Science Fiction
This book is now considered a modern classic. Honestly, I don't know why. Yes the story was good, but in my opinion, not a classic. I had seen the movie so I kind of knew what to expect. What I did not expect was sex. There is a lot of sex in this book. It didn't matter the situation sex was worked in. It got very annoying and I definitely wouldn't let a tween girl read it. I did like that the story was unique. Most books these days are very cookie cutter. This one broke the mold for sure. I also liked the way the chapters were structured. You never get bored and get into both Henry and Clare's heads. The end was also vague and not "disney". So major points for that. I say that this book is definitely worth the read I just wouldn't read it again and again so it didn't find a home on my shelf. Thank you for reading.
